The Federal Government has announced that it will pay around N34 billion in minimum wage significant adjustments to education sector workers from 2019. According to NAN, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, stated that the move aimed to resolve the sector's persistent issue. On Tuesday in Abuja, Ngige told reporters about the long-running protest by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and others. Universities will receive N23.5 billion, polytechnics N6 billion, and colleges of education N4 billion, totalling N34 billion, according to Ngige. While providing an update on the current strike, the minister stated that during the most recent tripartite meeting of the government and university-based unions, committees were formed. All employees and students at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, have been asked to return to work. On Thursday May 26, 2022, the university instructed employees and students to begin the academic activity. In a statement signed by its Registrar, Kayode Ogunleye, the university issued this decision. The institution is one of the Oyo State Government's tertiary educational institutes. The facility has been around for almost three decades. Resumption is for the continuation of academic activities for the First Semester of the 2021/2022 Academic Session, according to the Registrar's announcement. The restart order follows the Academic Staff Union of Universities' ongoing strike (ASUU). The LAUTECH ASUU has joined the union's current strike.
